Job description :

Our client is seeking a Vice President, Project Management Office (PMO) to oversee the strategic direction, governance and management of the organization's portfolio of projects and programs across Canada. This person will establish and maintain project management best practices, ensuring alignment with corporate strategy and objectives.

Responsibilities 

  • PMO Leadership: Establish, develop and lead the project management office to provide governance, oversight and support to project teams.
  • Ensure alignment of project portfolio with business strategy, bringing value to the organization.
  • Collaborate with senior managers and department heads to ensure strategic alignment of projects with business objectives.
  • Manage risk mitigation strategies and ensure that issues are communicated and resolved effectively.
  • Ensure delivery of critical programs and projects with a focus on cost effectiveness and quality.
  • Standardize processes across the organization to improve project execution and resource allocation.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and excellence in project execution.
  • Act as a key liaison between the PMO and senior management, ensuring clear communication and reporting.
  • Oversee the PMO's budget, resource allocation and financial performance.
  • Ensure that resources are used optimally across the project portfolio, and resolve bottlenecks or resource conflicts.
  • As part of his or her duties, the incumbent will travel frequently across Canada.

Skills and qualifications :

  • 10+ years' experience in project management, including at least 5 years in a management role within a PMO or similar function.
  • Master's degree in business, engineering, computer science or related field.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP), Program Management Professional (PgMP) or similar certification an asset.
  • Proven experience in leading large-scale programs and projects.
  • Expertise in project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, etc.) and portfolio management best practices.
  • Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent strategic thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage complex project portfolios with competing priorities.
  • Financial acumen, with experience in managing budgets and project forecasts.
  • Proficiency in project management tools and software.
